About Carrie
Carrie Weatherhead, L.C.S.W., serves as Director of External Affairs, overseeing Mountain Valley’s marketing, business development, communications, media, referral relations and related activities. Carrie has dedicated her career to working with adolescents and young adults in multiple settings.
A graduate of Clark University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Boston University where she earned her Master of Social Work, Carrie spent her early career working with at-risk adolescents and young adults in community settings focusing on empowerment theory and community strengths perspective.
Following her community work, Carrie spent more than ten years working in public school settings in the greater Boston area. She developed educational and life skills curriculum for first-generation college bound students in order to close the achievement gap in career and college attainment. Her role in public schools focused on grit and resilience development and integrated CBT modalities into mentoring relationships with her students. She also served as a special education and behavioral advocate for students and families in public school settings.
Most recently, Carrie was the Director of Admissions and Marketing at Pure Life Adventure, a young adult adventure therapy program based in Costa Rica. Prior to Pure Life, she was Executive Director at SavingTeens in Crisis Collaborative, a philanthropic organization dedicated to assisting troubled teens and their families struggling with significant emotional and behavioral challenges.
Carrie is also the principal of Weatherhead Support Services, a consulting firm focused on supporting programs and organizations as they embark upon healthy development and change.
A skilled connector of people and a natural steward of relationships, Carrie is also a talented clinician and coach. Outside of her time at MVTC, Carrie is a fitness coach, mountain biker, cook, hiker, knitter, and mom of two teenage boys. She lives in Boston with her husband, sons, and wheaten terrier.
