What We Treat
Some disorders are confused with OCD and are considered related disorders or Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders. Mountain Valley treats some of these, including:
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) involves thinking too much about an imagined or slight flaw in a person’s own looks. If there is a slight flaw, the person’s concern is extreme. These unhappy feelings are consuming. These feelings cause harmful beliefs and attitudes that affect thoughts, emotions and behaviors. These can then harm all areas of a person’s life, such as their social activities and job.
Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors
Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), such as Dermatillomania (skin picking) and Trichotillomania (hair pulling) involve the repeated pulling out of one’s hair or picking at the skin, resulting in noticeable hair loss, wounds and scabs. There is an increasing sense of tension immediately before or when attempting to resist the behavior, and there is pleasure, satisfaction, or relief when engaging in the behaviors. The condition causes significant distress or interference in one’s life.
