Life at Mountain Valley Embodies a Supportive Community Feel
While the foundation of the Mountain Valley Treatment Center experience is the evidence-based clinical care combined with the holistic, therapeutic approach to wellness, one could argue that the cornerstone of the program can be found in the sense of community. Mountain Valley’s residents enjoy an atmosphere that has a familial rather than an institutional feel.
Our supportive and well-trained residential counselors work closely with our therapists to ensure that the residents’ daily routine is purposeful, consistent with their treatment goals, and safe. Opportunities for growth and development take place throughout the day, from morning fitness to participating in the activity therapy modules. At Mountain Valley, we do our best to simplify life to help residents understand the differences between actual and perceived needs. We are an “unplugged” campus and access to the Internet is limited to therapeutic or academic work. Lunch and dinner include staff and residents to emphasize the importance of social interaction. Employing organic and sustainable practices, residents participate in the year-round cultivation (and consumption) of the foods we raise on our campus.
Weekends at Mountain Valley are filled with off-campus excursions that combine adventure, culture, and fun. This is a time where residential life is more “laid back.” Participation in seasonal activities such as skiing and snowboarding, caving, canoeing and snowshoeing as well as trips to local art and historic areas offer opportunities for learning and challenge.
